Giving it a bit longer

I had another acupuncture appointment the other day. My acupuncturist was really pleased when  I told her that I’d hardly had any hip pain at all between appointments.

We’ve decided now that we’re going to try leaving a bit of a longer gap until my next session and see how that goes. It’s been aching a bit more over the last couple of days, but I’m interested to see how things are once it settles down again.

Speaking of settling down, my backache from my the start of the week has now gone again like I thought it would, even if it did take a little longer than I thought it might.

In other news, we had some snow and ice here this morning. On what fun.

A change of pain

Over the last couple of days I’m becoming aware that the ‘mystery hip pain’ I’ve had on and off for the last couple of years has hardly bothered me at all. I only notice it now when my hip needs to crack or if it’s about time I stopped sitting in a chair at my desk and went to stretch out of my bed for a bit.

I think this is probably down to the acupuncture I’ve been having lately. I think I’ve had about three appointments so far and the results have already been far better than I could’ve hoped for. I’m not sure how many appointments I’ll be entitled too, but I hope the results carry on when my treatment is over.

That said, I was kept awake by pain last night, and it wasn’t in my hip. My back was the culprit this time. I think I spent a bit too long sitting in my wheelchair yesterday so I’m feeling a bit stiff today as a result. I have yet another cold too, which isn’t helping matters, but this kind of backache usually dies down again after a couple of days.

If anything, (and this is going to sound strange, but I hope someone, somewhere gets where I’m coming from), it’s actually quite nice to not be focusing on my hip for a change, but on somewhere else instead.

Yeah, being achy isn’t nice, but it is kinda nice to know that even if one part of my body is bothering me, it’s not the same one that been giving my jipp for ages. I’m hoping this is a sign that things are getting better for my hip.

Although, I’m not gonna lie, even though I wouldn’t swap my walk-in shower for the world, a hot bath would be lovely for my back right now.

This could’ve ended badly!

Even though I use a walking frame or wheelchair, some of you probably know that I walk around my  house unaided, and hold onto walls and cupboards and various other household objects as I need to.

(Believe me, I will grab hold of just about anything close to me to avoid falling over if I need to. I cringe when I think back to how many times I latched on to poor, unsuspecting strangers when I used to walk around the supermarket without help as a kid.)

I  wouldn’t say I could find my way around my house with my eyes closed (I tried it once, panicked and fell over – shocker) but I feel safe wandering around it.

2016: Where do I start?

So much has been going on over these last couple of weeks regarding my cerebral palsy that I haven’t had the chance to tell you about yet. To be honest I’m not entiin lrely sure where to start with all of it it, so I guess I’ll just dive in and wish you all a happy new year filled with health and happiness and take it  from there. It’s probably going to be better if I do the rest in list form, so here we go:

A new walking frame

Some of you may remember that my physio and I started the process of getting me a new walking frame as my last one (known as Martha) was over two years old and starting to show signs of wear and tear.

On the day before Christmas Eve my wait was finally over and I was given a brand new one. I said a fond farewell to old one, Martha, and welcomed my new one (named Ivy) into my world. I’ll take photographs for you all soon but she’s exactally the same make and model as Martha -a Nimbo frame –  so she doesn’t look any different, well apart from looking a bit cleaner and less scratched, but that won’t last long.

However, she’s in so much better condition than my old one (the wheels were getting wonky) that it moves like a dream and I feel like I’m going everywhere at top speed.

Acupuncture

It’s been just over a week since my first acupuncture appointment. I’ve already had a second and I’ve got a third booked in for next week. I’ll admit that even though I’d never had acupuncture before I went into this treatment with high hopes for it because I know quite a few who’ve had it and been really pleased with the results.

I haven’t been disappointed. Even after my first session the hip pain that I’m having the treatment done to try and combat is loads better. Longer-term readers of this blog will know that my hip has been hurting on and off for a couple of years now, with no one knowing what’s causing it, but it has eased so much already.

The pain doesn’t really bother me during the day anymore and it’s not as bad at night now either.

My new callipers

Some of you might remember that I made a YouTube video about my new calipers to wear on the days when there’s no one around to help me put my splints on. I was nervous about it because I’ve had them before and they didn’t work all that well, but these ones are slightly different and I haven’t had any problems so far!

Well, I think that’s everything I have to tell you for now. Thanks for sticking with me and reading this blog and watching my videos. It means a lot to me.

Happy new year,

Love,

Nic x

My first acupuncture appointment

Hey guys,

I’ve just got home for my first-ever acupuncture appointment, and by now you probably know that I was a bit apprehensive about the whole thing:

Now though, I have no idea why I was so nervous. The lady doing the treatment was lovely, and we had a long chat before she even got any needles out about the hip pain that I would be having it for; like what things made it worse and what things seemed to sooth it. We talked about my hobbies and I told her about this blog and the fact that I make videos on YouTube. It all made me feel at ease.

I had no idea how many needles she would use (although needles themselves don’t actually bother me tbh) but in the end I think she only used two. Neither of them hurt.  It did feel a bit odd, especially when she was turning them, but it wasn’t a bad sensation. She left them in for ten minutes, and then, because I was tolerating them well, she decided to leave them in for another ten and then we were done.

I’m going back next week, but I’m not going to be nervous this time.
