In need of a stretch and starting on Baclofen

More and more often lately, I’ve been finding myself going to bed at night, not because I’m tired, but because I feel in need of a good stretch.

I’ve gone to bed mostly so that I can lay down on my front or my back and ease a lot of the tension in my muscles, which I’ve noticed has been getting worse at night lately.

When I went to see my consultant a few weeks ago, she suggested that I try a muscle relaxant called Baclofen  to see if this helps. I’m hoping that it will, but I’m going to try it out for a short while at first to see how I find it before I commit to it long term.

I’m hoping to start that sometime this week and I’m a bit nervous about it because she warned that it can take a little while to get those dose right because sometimes it can leave you feeling a bit too floppy, but I’ll let you know how it goes.

Do any of you take it? How do you find it?

  1. Hi nic, I do the same when I need a good stretch… My night time routine really starts half an hour or more before I need to go to sleep so I can take my Baclofen, have a good stretch out and put my gaiters on, so I relax better and (hopefully) get a decent nights sleep.
I often read for a while in either long sitting or on my front to get a little extra stretch in.

I find Baclofen really helps me, I have been taking it just over 2 years and I feel a lot more comfortable, and definitely sleep better and get going easier after my morning dose.
When I first started I did feel a bit floppy until I got used to it, but that only took a couple of days, and as you increase the dose quite slowly I found it easy to get used to and have had no side effects from it.
The only things I found I needed to adapt to was because you need to take it with food, I had to make sure I factored breakfast in with my first dose, then a snack or lunch with my second dose. For my night time dose, I take it with hot chocolate made with milk.

Hope you get on well with it, it’s made a real difference to me!!

    1. Oh thanks for letting me know. I didn’t know you had to take it with food! Not a huge fan of breakfast so that could make things interesting!

      1. I wasn’t a huge fan of breakfast until I started taking it, I just used to have lots of tea to get me going!!!

  2. I’ll be interested to see how you like the Baclofen. Our son takes it, and just increased from 2x/day to 3x/day. It’s so hard for me to tell if it’s doing anything (since he’s so young). I’d love for him to be able to tell me what he’s feeling in his muscles!

Sorry you are feeling so tight/achy. I can imagine how good it would feel to just lie down. I hope the Baclofen helps too!

    1. Thanks, I’ll let you know. I think I’m starting it twice a day at first. It must be hard when he can’t tell you things but hopefully that’ll get easier when he’s older.
