Let’s talk about sleep

It’s currently 4:24 AM as I’m sitting typing this but it won’t be by the time you get to read it.  I’m having one of those nights where I can’t sleep because there’s a nagging ache in my left hip that won’t go away. This has been happening quite a lot over the last couple of months and I’m not sure why. I’ve been meaning to mention it to my physio but it always seems to stop around the time of my appointments so I always forget. I must remember next time.

I’ve been awake for ages now and I’ve tried laying in all different positions and do as many different stretches as I can think of but it won’t budge. It never does. I just have to wait until I get so tired that I fall asleep anyway.

It’s not all bad though. I’m not kept from sleep by aches and pains very often, (hardly ever until this one started showing up) so I can’t really complain. And I’ve already had a few hours shut-eye tonight.

It’s now 4:36 and I’m rambling. I can barely keep my eyes open and I’m sure this post will be full of typos when I check it again later. I’m going to go back to bed now.

Sweet dreams, everyone.

  1. I get exactly the same problem!!! If it’s not my hips then it’s my back and some nights I just can’t find a comfortable position to lay in!!! It’s not too bad in the winter because it helps putting a heat pack or two on the really tight or achy part, but this time of year forget it!!! – it’s hard enough keeping my gaiters on all night without beginning to cook!
On nights like this I end up reading or playing on my phone, then over sleep then next day which throws out my sleep pattern for days

    1. I use a heat pack in winter too. I have no idea how you cope in leg gaiters in this heat. I have the same thing with my back sometimes too. Sometimes it’s easier just to get up and wait for it to go away isn’t it? I ended up sleeping in this morning which annoyed me.

  2. It gets a bit warm to say the least!!! what I tend to do is wear them for a bit, as I find I relax better and get a better quality of sleep in them, then take them off until early morning when I put them back on to get a good stretch out.
The back thing is a bit of a nightmare, I often have to get up for a bit and wait for it to relax. I often log onto facebook to see if anyone’s still awake for a chat!! It’s all caused by my hips, so I give them a good stretch to see if that helps. How are you getting on with night splints in this weather?

    1. That’s not a bad idea. I’m finding my night split warm too lol. At least you know what’s causing the aches and pains but that doesn’t make it any less annoying. I end up going on the computer sometimes but I try and stick to reading if I can’t sleep.

  3. it helps, also I have a really lightweight duvet, that I fold in half so my legs are sticking out of it, that works too unless it’s really hot!! I wear afo socks, they help keep feet cooler in the summer, they are expensive, but worth it!! I try and stick to reading too, although when I do fall asleep I drop the book and lose my place, which really bugs me!!
