Kicking back pain in the bum

I get back pain quite often, usually as a result of the way I’ve been sitting, or standing, or spending too long in one position.

These days, I get it mostly in one of two places, usually in my upper back, (usually rather unhelpfully on the spot where my bra strap sits, just to make it extra annoying), or right at the base of my back. If I had to choose, I’d say that the latter of the two is the more annoying one because when I get it there it always feels like my back would cave in on itself if someone were to put too much pressure on the sore area. I know this won’t happen, but anyway…

The last few days I’ve spent a lot of time in my wheelchair because I went on a trip with my family to London, which was lovely and great fun for all of us. I took my chair (nicknamed Agatha) because I knew I wouldn’t be able to cope with the long days of walking and we’d all get to do more things that way.

Since we got back on Saturday, I’ve had pain in my lower back on and off, I think, (although I’m no medical expert), because of the amount of time I’ve spent sitting down.

When I woke up this morning, it was a little bit worse than it has been and I thought it had set in for the day. Nonetheless I went through my usual routines of laying down to stretch it out, putting wheat bags on it, getting a hot shower and making sure I moved around regularly.

Thankfully, I managed to kick it in the bum and get rid of it. Needless to say I am a lot happier and feel very pleased with myself.

  1. OMG I get back pain like this all the time!!!! Annoying isn’t it??!!
Mine is mostly in my lower back, but sometimes travels all the way up to my shoulders….
I try to stretch it out as much as I can, but it’s not always possible when out and about, or in the office…. I am being referred to see a consultant about it, and my other increased tightness, so we’ll hopefully find out what’s causing it.

Have you started on the Baclofen yet?

    1. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t wanted to start it just yet but I really need to hurry up and get on with it. I guess because I’m not feeling as tight or in pain at the moment, it’s not really been something I’ve really felt desperate to do, you know?

That back pain doesn’t sound nice! Hope you get it sorted to soon. I agree back pain is hard to deal with when you’re not at home. I just try and keep moving as much as I can.

      1. I know what you mean, I took a long time to get on and start taking it. I was a bit nervous to be honest….
