Even though I use a walking frame or wheelchair, some of you probably know that I walk around my house unaided, and hold onto walls and cupboards and various other household objects as I need to.
(Believe me, I will grab hold of just about anything close to me to avoid falling over if I need to. I cringe when I think back to how many times I latched on to poor, unsuspecting strangers when I used to walk around the supermarket without help as a kid.)
I wouldn’t say I could find my way around my house with my eyes closed (I tried it once, panicked and fell over – shocker) but I feel safe wandering around it.
However, one thing I try avoid is walking with both my hands full. I like to have one free in case I feel myself having a wobble. And yet, as I sit here typing this, that is what I’ve just done.
Yep, I just walked from the kitchen to the living room with a half-drunk cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other.
I know what you’re thinking, given my balance record, that probably wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had.
A physical, paperback book and liquid, what was I thinking??
Are you nervous yet, because I was as I set off on my little journey.
Buuuuut…
I DID IT!
I made it to the sofa, and no books, mugs of half-drunk tea, OR girls called Nic were hurt in the process.
Yes!
Yay! I’m glad you, your tea, and your book made the trip safely.

Ohh I can definitely relate to this having CP and carrying things around is like a mission in itself, i’ll always remember when I was a teenager we took a trip to this really posh theatre with the school, we were just about to be seated when I lost my balance and grabbed onto the the nearest thing to me to my embarrassment the closest thing to me was a really posh man’s trousers. I’ve never wanted the ground to swallow me up so much in my life! haha x

I feel your pain! My mum always loves to tell the story about how I once pulled a man’s trousers down trying to stop myself falling. Thankfully, I was too young to remember.
Sadly though I’m old enough to remember the time I grabbed onto a man’s hip in the supermarket when I was about 8 or so. I don’t know which of us was more mortified! x
